Patrick Poulliart

Before the actual question is posed, Patrick Pouillard, who teaches drawing at the Ecole des Arts in Sint-Gillis, briefly elaborates on the difference between a school and an academy. He shares what the notion of freedom of the artist means for him, and is questioned about the comparative freedom of the artist who draws and the model who is drawn. Students are expected to come up with ways to express themselves, as part of the learning process. He considers the relationship between the artist’s body and the model’s to be dynamic. He views the term ’model’ as expedient, and he adds that a specific language for art does not exist, and the phase of representation is behind us.
