The videos by Antonin de Bemels are - literally - attempts: explorations of the body and gestures, of rhythm and movement. He is fascinated by the importance of a single image and interweaves all kinds of visual stimuli in a complex associative network by means of the 'scrubbing' effect, the visual equivalent of auditive 'scratching'. Idiot's Brew is based on an electro-acoustic composition by Silk Saw vs. Jardin d'usure, it shows a rhythmically synchronised, agitated stream of images. De Bemels makes use of an extensive pallet of ephemeral light stimuli and abstract anatomical visuals. In the spirit of a true craftsman-baker he mingles seemingly unrelated images of culinary rituals and detailed textures into a consistent web of complex sensations.
