A first encounter with Oscar

The video A First Encounter with Oscar is a reconstruction of Sanders’ physical encounter with Oscar Niemeyer’s Rashid Karami International Fair in Tripoli, Lebanon. In the image, Mira Sanders’ body and camera play with the lines the architect has drawn. The diptych editing confronts the various points of view, engages them in a dialogue and creates an imbalance. The site is almost deserted—there are a few people about, some birds are singing, the wind is blowing, there are flowers. A paradoxical beauty that results from armoured concrete surrounded by a Garden of Eden. Far off, in the background, there is the town of Tripoli—lively and distant at the same time.
