La Cucina della casa per l'arte e la rivoluzione contemporanea

Vergara developed an installation called ’La Cucina della Case per l’arte e la revoluzione contemporanea’ for the Centro civico per l’arte contemporanea in Serre di Rapolano (IT) in 1998. It involves the animation of the faces of artists who at that time were also exhibiting in Serre di Rapolano, for instance Fabrice Hybert and Alicia Framis, shown against a fixed, baroque background, while Italian words including ’naturale’, ’civilta’, ’desire’, ’pranzo’, ’il soggetto’, ’musica’ and ’pietra’ appeared in shot. Beneath the image, Straatman appears, eating something. The music that can be heard is by Satie. Here, the kitchen in the title becomes a metaphor for a playful and critical reflection about the revolutionary pretensions of a temporary community of artists.
