These pieces are recordings of Angel Vergara’s early demonstrations, the first time they have been shot. There were already photos before. Here for the first time, he films original photographs with a super8 camera. These images show the first shots of Vergara’s alter ego Straatman – the name ’Straatman’ would follow later, inspired by comments made about a performance in Antwerp. Motives show up here that would also characterize his future works: fixing reality by means of the act of observational drawing, the artist’s position on the street, his isolation in a tent, the position from which he can observe reality, and the function of the window as medium.
