KISMET

In Kismet – this word means ‘destiny’ in Turkish – Jashari comments on the notion of ‘woman’ by setting suggestive, pin-up-like images against women dressed in strict Islamic clothing. In crudely edited and contrasting B/W images Jashari tells a story in which women wage war and the defiant ‘Western’ woman is stoned by an Islamic fundamentalist group of women, after which they throw off their own dresses on the spot.
