KARL MARX

Here, the central point is Karl Marx and his residence in Brussels between 1845 and 1848, interspersed with references to the ideas of Joseph Proudhon, who criticised Marx’ historical materialism and who died in Brussels in 1865. A historian speaks, as does Luc Tuymans, who elaborates on history in a television programme. Here as well Vergara draws out unexpected connections between art, politics and media. By letting his brush move across the cinematic images, the artist is also suggesting that recorded reality embodies the pallet with which he is ’painting’.
