PALAIS D'EGMONT. PEINTURE EN 1 ACTE ET 12 TABLEAUX

As in the works ’La belle Rosine. Peinture en 1 acte et 12 tableaux’ and ’L’arbre. Peinture en 1 acte et 7 tableaux’, a series of paintings forms the basis of this film. In this triptych of ultra-short works the artist applies a super-fast montage – introductions and end credits take longer than the actual work. In ’Palais d’Egmont. Peinture en 1 acte et 12 tableaux’ twelve paintings flash by in slightly more than one second. The paintings are created with plain painting gestures and sober, dark colours. The style of the paintings is schematic and urgent – a necessity that is emphasised by the accelerated montage. The Egmont Palace in the title – one of the hotels that General Egmont had built in Brussels in the sixteenth century – is hardly recognisable.
