SHOOTING INTO THE SUN

A video piece made of transferred slide show pictures that Ria Pacquée took over the course of years, a photographic series that is still on-going. In different parts of the world – Belgium, Europe, Marocco, India and different parts in Asia – the artist took frontal pictures of the sun. We see a blinding sun in front of a Nepalese temple, a setting one in the port of Antwerp or a romantic yellow sun above the Eifel tower. Pacquée intertwines this imagery with flashes of her self-portrait, standing in a blackened room, hooded but staring straight into the camera.
