LE MUSÉE

In ’Le Musée’ Vergara combines images from earlier performances (see Films Actions, 1987-1989) with pictures from the Royal Museum for Fine Arts in Brussels, of which the Tafereel van de septemberdagen 1830 op de Grote Markt van Brussel, painted by Gustave Wappers in 1835, is the subject of particular attention. By letting his brush move across the cinematic images, the artist is also suggesting that recorded reality embodies the pallet with which he is ’painting’.
