After Der große Verhau (1971), Willi Tobler und der Untergang der 6. Flotte (Willi Tobler and the Decline of the 6th Fleet) is another unusual science fiction tale by Alexander Kluge. Shot on a deliberately low budget and stylistically intended to evoke the cinema of Georges Méliès, Willi Tobler und der Untergang der 6. Flotte tells about Willi Tobler and an interstellar conflict at some unspecified point in the future. Willi endeavours to survive and takes a job as Chief Admiral of the 6th Fleet, at the centre of power. But, in his radical attempt to start a new life, he takes the wrong side in this civil war.
