PRICE AICA-BE BEST EXHIBITION 2016: MIRA SANDERS, 'INLAND VOYAGES IN AN INLAND VOYAGE' IN ARGOS

The Belgian Association of Art Critics has re-launched in 2016 its prize "Best Exhibition Award" of the previous year. The prize is awarded to a consolidated exhibition that makes a significant contribution to today's art discourse, which is selected from a shortlist of five exhibitions pre-established by the board of directors on which the 115 affiliated art critics can cast their votes.

This year ABCA / BVKC awarded the prize for the best exhibition of 2016 to 'Inland Voyages in An Inland Voyage' by Mira Sanders, which took place in the fall of 2016 in ARGOS, Brussels.

The exhibition 'Inland Voyages in An Inland Voyage' originated from a fascination of Mira Sanders for the travel story An Inland Voyage (1878) by Robert Louis Stevenson. Sanders translated Stevenson's writings into "a subjective map" presented by a juxtaposition of images (text, video, drawings, scale model and sound). Several navigation options in 'An inland voyage' were investigated and offered. She also invited the artists Gudný Rósa Ingimarsdóttir, Filip Berte, Jan Kopp, Erwan Mahéo and Cédric Noël to draw this imaginary landscape with her.

The prize will be presented on Saturday, June 24th at the LUCA School of Arts - Campus Sint-Lukas Brussel, at 1:30 pm, accompanied by a speech and reception. The ceremony will be held in the presence of Mira Sanders, Rolf Quaghebeur, General Director, and Ive Stevenheydens, Curator & Communication, ARGOS.

From 2:00 pm, there will be the possibility to visit the LUCA Graduation Show.
At 3:00 pm one can also attend the lecture of Mieke Bal, 'The artist as a co-maker'.
