In ’40 Portraits’ forty Rosas dancers are portrayed. They constitute what the work of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker is all about. Each dancer contributes to the identity of the group, and therefore also to the results they show, how they evolve, grow and change. ’40 Portraits’ delivers short, but typifying portraits of the dancers, and focuses on those elements which make the difference to the group and its development over time. Originally conceived as a video installation, Boris Van der Avoort translates this rich collection of very different fragments into a rather surprising, fast, rythmical, dancing game of images. This rythm is determined by the quick succession of the ’portraits’ and the accompanying soundtrack.

The division of the screen into three parts is a decisive factor as well.
